'Bed Time' Story

OSCAR AND THE SECRET PASSAGE

As I ate my breakfast I had a curious feeling that something in my kitchen was missing, and then I started to try to figure out what was not in its place that should be. I looked at the fish bowl that was on the top of the freezer, and I noticed that my goldfish, Oscar, wasn’t there. “Where is he?”, I asked. I started to look everywhere. “Well, fish don’t fly, so he shouldn’t be far from the kitchen!”, I thought.

This happened yesterday, and today, when I woke up and went to the kitchen again to eat my breakfast, Oscar was there! “Hello Oscar!, I said, don’t you have something to tell me?”. Oscar pretended that I wasn’t talking to him and didn’t say a word. “Well OK then. Just don’t forget who gives you food!”, I said to frighten him. “Alright, alright! I’ll tell you, but you have to promise that you won’t tell anyone”, said Oscar suddenly. “I promise! Now tell me!”,I asked anxiously.

“Well, yesterday I was swimming around here in my bowl and suddenly a bid dark hole opened up right in front of me. At first I was scared but you know how I am...so I went to see what was on the other side”, said Oscar. I wasn’t very much convinced about this story of a secret passage, but I told him to continue. And so he did.

“You have no idea what was on the other side! It was a beautiful city where fish can drive cars, play golf… a clown-fish told me that it was known as “the undersea city”, said Oscar, very excited. I couldn’t believe what Oscar was telling me . “What an imagination you have!”, I said. “I am not lying, if that’s what you are thinking, I swear!”, said Oscar. “So I went to find out more about this city and the more I swam, the more I was amazed by”, continued Oscar, “there were all kinds of fish, some I didn’t even know existed. They seemed only to know that world and no other, The fish-clown, Ronald McSea, asked me if I was “the savior”. It turns out that they have been stuck in that city by a shark since a long time ago.”

“But what for?”, I asked. “To do experiments with them, to see how they’ll behave doing what humans do”, Oscar replied. “That isn’t so bad”, I said. “Well for those fish, it was. They wanted to get out of there. They wanted to do what fish do!”, said Oscar. “So you were the one who was going to save them?”, I asked. “Exactly!”, said Oscar. “How?”, I asked. “Well, I had to open a chest. I guess I was the only one who could do it. And so I did, and I free all of them”, said Oscar, very happy. “So how did you come back?”, I asked. “The secret passage was still open. They asked if I wanted to stay with them, but you know how much I like you!”, said Oscar very embarrassed. “And that’s the story. Can you give me some food now?”, asked Oscar.

And so I gave Oscar some food and I was glad he had come back home. And that’s the story of my goldfish and the secret passage!
